ACHILLES
To Greek mythology, Achilles was the main hero of the Trojan War and the strongest, fastest and beautiful warrior of Homer's Iliad. Son of Peleo, king of the Myrmidons in Ftia, and Thetis, a sea nymph, was considered invincible Achilles, but not immortal.
To explain the invulnerability Achilles, there are two versions: one tells us when he was born, his mother Thetis held him heel and dipped him in the River Styx to return immortal, but his heel never touched the water, remaining vulnerable as any other mortal.
Another version says that Thetis made him the fireside to burn the mortal parts of his body and then anointed
the child with ambrosia, until it was interrupted by Peleo, who snatched the child from his hands and he left with a heel charred. Angry, he abandoned Thetis and Peleo replaced both Achilles heel burned by the table Dámiso giant, famous for its great speed. This version also discusses why he was called "the swift-footed"
Achilles grew up with Patrocio on Mount Pelion, where he fed fierce boar, bowels of lion and bear marrow to increase their courage. Also he learned archery, art of eloquence and song, and wound healing. While Homer's Iliad is the most famous exploits of Achilles in the Trojan War story, it only covers a few weeks of the war and does not narrate Achilles' death.
During one of the battles, the Trojans managed to push back the Greek forces and raided their ships. Led by Prince Hector, the Greeks seemed about to fall until Patrocio Trojans managed to repel the beaches, but was killed by Hector before who managed to take the town of Troy.
When Achilles heard the news, anger and pain invaded so that almost suicide. Patrocio was guarded all night, and Achilles vowed to avenge his death. He asked his mother a new and more powerful armour and tactics of fighting, which killed Hector, then tied her limp body to his car, dragging nine days around the walls of Troy, not allowing to have the rites funeral. Until the aid of the god Hermes, King Priam Achilles convinced to allow him to celebrate the funeral rites of his son.
The powerful Achilles, seemingly invincible, was finally defeated by the Trojan prince Paris, who shot a poisoned arrow, directed by god Apollo, the left heel and killed him. His remains were mixed with those of his great friend Patrocio and his mythical armour opened a dispute between Odysseus and Ajax the Great, Achilles older cousin. Then her mother got for his son Thetis immortality and he lived on the island of Leukaemia at the mouth of the Danube, where he worshiped.
Thetis, Achilles’s mother, was a goddess of the sea and the leader of the fifty Nereides. Like many other sea gods she possessed the gift of prophesy and power to change her shape at will.
MY OPINION:
I think Achilles was a hero because he not only was a great representative of Greece, he was also an example as a person.
He was an example by his intelligence and courage, admired and known throughout the world. Other less important as his good heart, he was a good person because although when he was angry, he thought in the other people, like when in the film he let to the Hector’s father to get his son’s body to do the rituals and in another occasions when he lets someone to go free.
He did many important thinks to his empire because hi prepared the tactics for the war and the way to enter to the Troy city and to destroy the empire.
He was in love of Breseas and he rescues her few times and I think he was a hero for that too. Achilles had more in mind Breseas his love for his own loyalty to his king.
